Quirky Roadside Attraction for Sale in Michigan

A decades-old roadside attraction that 'defies the laws of gravity' has gone up for sale in Michigan. According to a local media report, Mystery Hill (featured in the video above) began operation around 75 years ago in the community of Onsted. The centerpiece of the quirky location is a 'gravitational house,' a classic attraction that relies on optical illusions and similar tricks to make it appear as if one has entered a structure unbound by gravity. Such 'mystery spots,' as they are also known, have delighted tourists for decades in California, Oregon, North Carolina, and other states.

Having purchased and subsequently refurbished the property four years ago, owner Dick Dole is now looking to hand over the reins of Mystery Hill for $299,000, which includes the gravitational house, an oddities museum, a gemstone mining attraction, and, of course, a gift shop. "I've done the hard work. I've got it all restored. I've got it up and functioning," he explained, "it's a profitable business." To that end, he indicated that Mystery Hill brings in around $25,000 while only operating between Memorial Day and Labor Day.

The owner of several roadside attractions, Dole hopes to find a prospective buyer with a passion for keeping the unique operation and its "oddities of wonder" going after all these years. "You have to be kind of an outgoing, fun-loving person," he mused, "it's a very happy business. It's people there enjoying themselves." Would-be buyers or those simply looking to check out the attraction this summer can find out more information at the Mystery Hill website.
