South Carolina Prison Intercepts Drone Delivery of Contraband Steak and Crab Legs Feast

A South Carolina prison squashed what was likely an early Christmas party among inmates when they intercepted a veritable feast of contraband items, including steak and crab legs, that had been dropped outside the facility by a drone. The remarkable recovery reportedly occurred on Sunday when a guard at the Lee Correctional Institution noticed a suspicious bag sitting in the prison yard. Upon opening the peculiar bundle, they discovered that it contained a large uncooked steak, a cluster of crab legs, a package of Old Bay seasoning for the seafood, a bag of marijuana, and two cartons of cigarettes.

Detailing the case in a social media post, the South Carolina Department of Corrections mused that "it seems some folks were planning an early holiday Old Bay crab boil and steak dinner" delivered via drone to the prison. Reflecting a similar sense of humor about the incident, a spokesperson for the facility joked, "I'm guessing the inmates who were expecting the package are crabby." That said, as one might imagine, authorities are investigating the contraband delivery and, should the pilot of the drone be caught, they could face a whopping ten-year sentence behind bars for the misguided attempt at spreading holiday cheer.
