TikTok 'Psychic' Swindles Canadian Woman

A Canadian woman is sounding the alarm over a scam in which she was allegedly bilked out of $11,000 by a self-proclaimed psychic operating on TikTok. The unfortunate cautionary tale reportedly began when Marie, who has opted not to reveal her identity, received a sizeable inheritance following the passing of her stepfather last year. Uncertain as to what to do with the money, she turned to the TikTok account of an individual out of Texas who claims to be a psychic. Although she only paid $20 for her initial reading, Marie says that this was merely the start of a months-long ordeal which ultimately cost her a small fortune.

"She was like, yeah, there's so much negativity around you," Marie recalled, "every time she would do a reading, the price would go up. She would say I need more money to get rid of all this negativity, like I need to fix you." To that end, the cost for the psychic's sessions soon increased exponentially until the self-proclaimed soothsayer declared that "I’m seeing 666, so we have to turn it into 999" and indicated that Marie needed to send them $9,000 to eradicate the dark cloud hanging over her. However, as one may have surmised by now, the true curse which had befallen the young woman was her decision to enlist the psychic in the first place.

Despite promising to return all of Marie's money once the negative energy around her had been removed, the woman contends that the psychic kept all of the funds and stopped communicating with her. Now realizing her mistake, she understandably feels angry and embarrassed at having fallen victim to the scheme wherein she was duped into giving "a complete stranger" her entire inheritance. Despite being mortified by what happened to her and it being highly unlikely that she can recoup the money, Marie came forward with her account to warn others about the dangers of ne'er-do-wells using modern technology to perpetuate the age-old phony psychic scam.
