An anomaly hunter looking for oddities in NASA photos from Mars spotted what appears to be the number twelve inexplicably located on the side of a rock. The peculiar find was reportedly made by indefatigable researcher Scott Waring, who recently discovered the strange markings in an image snapped by the Curiosity Mars rover in early February. To his surprise, as he zoomed in and scoured the sizeable image, he noticed that the darkened side of a large Martian rock seemed to sport an underlined number twelve.
In a video detailing the curious discovery, seen above, Waring mused "that the number twelve signifies religious, mythological, symbolic meaning often representing perception, entirety, and cosmic order." Given its importance in our culture, the anomaly hunter posited that the markings were remnants of an ancient civilization that shared a similar reverence for the number. More skeptical observers, of course, will argue that the '12' seen on the rock is merely a trick of light and shadow. What do you make of the Waring's weird find?
