Video: Canadian College Captures Oddly Coveted Dinosaur Costume World Record

By Tim Binnall

A Canadian college recently captured the oddly coveted Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as dinosaurs. According to a local media report, the University of Calgary took home the title earlier this month at an event celebrating the school's 60th anniversary. As part of the festivities, the college called upon the community to join in on their record-breaking effort, which was undoubtedly inspired by their sports teams being dubbed The Dinos, and the costume-clad participants came out in droves.

All told, a staggering 682 people dressed as dinosaurs for the event, smashing the previous high-water mark of 468, which was set last year by Florida's Cox Science Center and Aquarium. Remarkably, that title change came about after another Canadian community, the town of Drumheller, tried to break the record in May of 2024 and had their attempt thrown out due to a technicality. In that instance, approximately 3,000 costume-clad people gathered for an event, but the crowd was so large that it could not be contained long enough for Guinness to recognize an official tally. With that in mind, one imagines that it's only a matter of time before another community makes its own run at the record that has turned into something of a proverbial hot potato.
