In a sign of our strange times, authorities in the UK and Ireland were forced to issue a statement debunking AI-generated videos and photos of an unsettling individual dressed as the Cat in the Hat and hanging around various communities. The peculiar trend reportedly began earlier this month when the weird media, which often resembles something captured by a doorbell camera, spread like wildfire on social media with claims that the oddly dressed stranger had recently been spotted. The fantastic tale and accompanying photos and videos fooled many netizens, who wondered if the curious character had sinister intentions and marveled at their appearances in multiple areas in a fashion similar to creepy clowns.
Remarkably, the chatter surrounding the mysterious stranger became significant enough that police departments in Ireland and the UK eventually stepped forward to squash the rumors. "In an unusual turn of events, we are hearing a lot about an elusive Dr Seuss character doing the rounds online, apparently causing havoc in neighborhoods and towns across the country," Ireland's Wexford Garda said in a statement, "fortunately, we can rule out the issue, which is essentially an AI prompt that places the character into images and videos of familiar places. To be clear, the Cat in the Hat was not in your driveway while you were out." Police in Glasgow, Dublin, Limerick, and other cities followed suit with similar warnings, likely hoping to prevent calls from terrified residents fooled by the hoax.
