Video: Mystery Booms Rock Wisconsin City

By Tim Binnall

A series of mystery booms that have rocked a Wisconsin city multiple times in recent weeks has residents and authorities scratching their heads. On at least 10 different occasions over the past two months, people living in the community of New Holstein have reportedly heard the unsettling sounds which have been likened to explosions. "The first time I heard it I kind of sat up in bed and like what the heck was that," recalled resident Brenda Salkowski, "it sounded like it was in our yard like a gun shooting off in our yard, I mean it was that loud of a noise."

Over the last few weeks, the mystery booms have become the proverbial talk of the town with all manner of theories being offered for what could be behind the powerful sounds. "The speculation is across the board," New Holstein Mayor Jeff Hebl said, "from emptying a dumpster to a ground fault to sewer system, you name it." Thanks to the ubiquity of home security cameras in this day and age, one system managed to capture the mystery boom (featured in the video above); however, the recording provides little insight into the source of the sounds besides being an inordinately loud bang.

Noting that city officials would be aware of any projects that might be responsible for the sound, the mayor indicated that the community's police department is looking into the situation in the hopes of tracking down the cause of the noise. While cops investigate the recurring booms, Hebl understandably expressed concern that their source could be something dangerous. "Whatever it is, the sound of it," he mused, "somebody’s gonna get hurt." Can you identify the booms plaguing New Holstein? Share your best guess with us at the C2C Facebook page.
