A beachgoer in California photographed an puzzling form in the water which left him wondering if it was some kind of sea creature. The strange images were reportedly taken by a man named George during a visit to Huntington Beach earlier this month. His friend Carol subsequently submitted the photos along with his account of the incident to a YouTube channel which specializes in oddities and anomalies.
According to her, while George was sitting on the sand, he allegedly spotted "a frenzy of fish" splashing about and jumping out of the water. She claims that this was particularly weird to him because, as a lifelong surfer, he'd "never seen anything like this before." Intrigued by what he was watching, the bewildered witness pulled out his cell phone and managed to snap a couple of photos of the commotion. When he and Carol later looked at the images, they were left scratching their heads as to what, exactly, he had photographed, since it seemed to almost be shaped like a person.
As one can imagine, observers online have offered a variety of suggestions for what the anomaly in the image might be, including some fantastic possibilities such as a mermaid. Others have put forward more prosaic explanations, like a dolphin or perhaps a bird. For her part, Carol insists that the images are not altered in any way, although given the near-anonymous nature in which they surfaced, the possibility of a hoax cannot be discounted.
