Former President Barack Obama recently revisited the subject of aliens in an interview and dismissed the possibility that the government is hiding extraterrestrial secrets. The remarks came during a conversation with Stephen Colbert, wherein the late-night host teased Obama that no one believed him earlier this year when he seemingly backtracked on saying aliens exist. Amusingly pressed to "come clean" and finally reveal the truth about aliens to the American people, the former president offered a response that will likely sound familiar to longtime flying saucer fans as he insisted that such an enormous secret could not be contained by the 'powers that be.'
Speaking to those "who still think that we've got little green men underground somewhere," Obama observed that "one of the things you learn as president is the government is terrible at keeping secrets." He went on to dismiss "conspiracy theories" that there are "aliens or alien spaceships or anything under the control of the United States government," by asserting that "some guy guarding the installation would have taken a selfie with one of the aliens and sent it to his girlfriend to impress her. I would leak." UFO enthusiasts would undoubtedly point to the myriad of alleged whistleblowers over the past several decades and say that is precisely what has been happening in a far less overt fashion, of course.
Interestingly, when asked if he wished aliens were real, Obama responded, "I actually do," and offered to take on the role of "emissary for the planet" should first contact with aliens occur. Making his case for the job, the former president cited his "experience in statecraft and diplomacy" and friendly demeanor. While he was undoubtedly joking about representing Earth and humanity to extraterrestrial visitors, that such a scenario was even explored for humor is a testament to the current state of UFO disclosure, where it increasingly feels like the questions surrounding the phenomenon and what to do about it have fundamentally changed.
