Video: Odd Rings Appear in Russian Sky

By Tim Binnall

A curious piece of footage out of Russia appears to show a pair of puzzling rings that appeared in the sky and then seemingly multiplied. The weird incident was reportedly filmed in the city of Irkutsk by a bewildered witness who spotted the strange scene unfolding and recorded it with his cell phone. In the video, two fairly distinct white rings can be seen lingering in the air before a third circular anomaly slowly becomes visible alongside the pair of puzzling oddities.

As is often the case, the video has spawned all manner of theories for what the rings were, including the suggestion that they were alien craft equipped with cloaking technology or perhaps a secret weapon test. Other possibilities put forward by observers were that the rings were simply residue from a pyrotechnic display and, in a testament to the current climate of concern in many countries, that they were somehow connected to the coronavirus of all things.

While we cannot be certain as to what exactly caused the anomalies, a prominent astronomer in Russia dismissed the outlandish ideas circulating online and indicated that the rings were likely just inversion traces formed by aircraft. He also noted that his office has been inundated with calls from local media looking to identify the UFOs seen in the video. What's your take on the intriguing footage?
