Video: Ohio Cops Search for Wayward Wallaby Spotted Wandering Around Village

Authorities in an Ohio community are on the hunt for an out-of-place wallaby that has been spotted by multiple residents over the last few days. According to a local media report, the curious case first came to light on Thursday evening when a person called the Brewster Police Department to report seeing a baby kangaroo. Although the cops initially thought the witness was simply mistaken, they realized that the account was genuine after another resident stopped by the station with a video that clearly shows the creature crossing a nearby highway. “Never dreamed I'd run into this in my career," Brewster Police Chief Nathan Taylor marveled

While cops are certain that there is an exotic animal on the loose in the community, there appears to have been some confusion as to the nature of the creature with it first being reported that there were two kangaroos roaming around Brewster. By Sunday afternoon, however, the department issued a statement clarifying that they are actually searching for a wallaby, which is a smaller, but similar marsupial. As for where the creature could have come from, Taylor theorized that it escaped from somewhere and, since no zoos have reported any missing animals, one assumes that it was being kept by a private collector.

Despite searching extensively for the creature over the last few days, the Brewster Police Department has so far been unable to nab the wallaby. That said, cops are optimistic about catching the marsupial as they believe that they have a general idea of where it is lurking and have enlisted a "professional team" of wildlife experts to help them ultimately capture the creature. That said, until that happens, they are asking residents to not approach the wallaby if they should see it and, instead, report the sighting to the authorities. "Our biggest fear right now," Taylor mused, is that someone will take matters into their own hands and shoot the animal or they may wind up being hurt by the creature should it feel cornered and forced to go on the attack.
