A pair of China's famed terracotta warrior statues were damaged when a tourist jumped into their display and jostled the ancient pieces. The unfortunate incident reportedly occurred on Friday at the Museum of the Terracotta Army in Xi'an, where thousands of the clay figurines are showcased in various pits. According to Chinese authorities, the unnamed man "climbed over the guardrail and the protective net and jumped" into one such display that was about 18 feet deep.
Upon landing, the tourist tangled with two of the statues, causing them to be "damaged to varying degrees." Security subsequently swept in and "controlled" the misguided museum guest who hails from somewhere else in China. Video of the incident, captured by another museum visitor, shows the man seemingly in pain at the base of one of the statues. It is uncertain what will become of the tourist as authorities attributed the incident to "mental illness" with no indication of how the matter may proceed.
