A long-running Michigan tourist attraction located in the oddly named community of Hell has gone up for sale. According to a local media report, owner John Colone seized upon widespread interest in the town with the weird name by creating and developing the unique destination in 1998. Known as the 'Gateway to Hell,' the attraction boasts a mini golf course, an ice cream parlor fittingly dubbed the Creamatory, and even a wedding chapel for couples looking for an unusual and memorable start to their marriage. The site also, of course, features a sizeable gift shop with all manner of Hell-themed merchandise for guests known to visit the location from around the world.
Now, after nearly thirty years of operating the attraction, Colone is retiring from the role of gatekeeper to Hell and has put the tourist destination on the market. Calling the three-decade-long experience "a lot of fun," he explained that the decision to sell the site came about because "I'm 80 years old and I just wanted some John Time." With an asking price of $625,000, which is disappointingly forty-one thousand dollars less than what one might expect, the half-developed 7-acre piece of land comes with all of the aforementioned features as well as the opportunity to expand the operation considerably. To that end, Colone expressed hope that the next owner of the Gateway to Hell will keep the proverbial party going long into the future.
