Video: Troublesome Turkeys Torment Wisconsin Neighborhood

By Tim Binnall

Residents of a Wisconsin neighborhood are fed up with a flock of wild turkeys that have grown increasingly aggressive and are now attacking people living in the area. The latest case of foul fowl is reportedly unfolding in the city of Janesville, where the bellicose birds have begun making life miserable with their troublesome ways. "At first, the turkeys were cool. They brought life to the neighborhood," explained resident Lawrence Meyer, who lamented that, over time, "they’ve become a nuisance. They block traffic, they’ve caused accidents, they went after my mailman.”

Meyer's turkey tipping point came when one of the feathered fiends targeted his eight-year-old son, chasing the terrified youngster as he tried to cross the street. "These are big birds," the dismayed dad observed, "when they fluff their feathers, they're scary." A wildlife expert from the Wisconsin DNR told a local TV station that the behavior of the turkeys in Janesville is "more of a rarity than it is common. He advised residents to assert their dominance over the animals in a safe way, which will eventually lead to the birds leaving the area for a safer perceived location. For his part, Meyer has created a petition to urge local officials to take action about the animals before someone gets hurt.
