Video: Utah Town Captures Oddly Coveted Dinosaur Costume World Record

By Tim Binnall

A town in Utah recently captured the oddly coveted Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people dressed as dinosaurs. Officially confirmed last week by Guinness, the community of Vernal took home the title at an event held in late August. According to a local media report, a whopping 804 people donned dinosaur costumes to smash the previous high-water mark of 682 participants, which was set back in April by the University of Calgary.

The achievement was particularly bittersweet for organizers in Vernal as the city had attempted to pull off the feat last year, but sadly fell short of what was then the record of 468 faux dinosaurs set in 2025 by Florida's Cox Science Center and Aquarium. To that end, the community may want to savor being at the top of the mountain while it lasts, since the title has become something of a hot potato in recent years and news of the record being broken will undoubtedly inspire some other enterprising groups who believe that they can best the current high-water mark for faux dinosaurs.
