Video: Virginia Cops on the Hunt for 'Pink Panther'

By Tim Binnall

Virginia authorities are on the hunt for a mysterious individual seen roaming around a city dressed in a pink panther costume. According to a local media report, multiple witnesses spotted the peculiar stranger earlier this month in the community of Fredericksburg. Realtor Russ Ray, who captured footage of the puzzling person, recalled being taken aback when he first noticed the costume-clad individual. "I thought that was a little bizarre," he explained, "so I shot a quick video and put it on TikTok." The footage spread like wildfire online before the story took something of a troubling turn.

A few days after Ray filmed the video, the Fredericksburg Police Department issued a bulletin wherein they cautioned the public about the 'pink panther' prowling around the community. Chillingly, they warned that the individual "was reported to have been following children." Assuring the public that they were taking the matter seriously and had stepped up patrols of the area, the department called on anyone with further information about the stranger to step forward and help shed some light on the unsettling situation.

To that end, a convenience store manager in the neighborhood subsequently told a local TV station that she had also encountered the 'pink panther' when the worrisome weirdo wandered into her shop. Thanks to an opening in his mask, she was able to determine that the individual was a man, but could glean no further clues to his identity. Alas, when she and some store customers told the interloper to remove the head of his costume, the stranger simply left the shop rather than comply with their demands.

Though police remain on the lookout for the individual, it is uncertain if the 'pink panther' has been seen since the day he was spotted earlier this month. With the hope that his actions were merely a misinterpreted prank, one can imagine that unexpectedly going viral and then drawing the attention of authorities could have caused the stranger to hang up his odd costume rather than tempt fate with additional appearances that might result in a run-in with the law or, worse, vigilante justice directed at the peculiar phantom.
