Video: Visitors Flock to See 'Face' Formed by Receding Reservoir in Thailand

By Tim Binnall

A significant drop in the water level of a reservoir in Thailand resulted in the emergence of a rather remarkable formation that bears a striking resemblance to a woman's face. The wondrous sight was reportedly first noticed last week at the Chong Khao Khat Dam in the district of Tha Pla. Already a tourist destination due to its picturesque scenery, the reservoir has become something of a sensation over the last few days as word of the peculiar profile has spread on social media and people have begun flocking to the site to admire the striking visage.

"The emergence of a shape resembling a woman’s face when viewed from above has amazed visitors as a piece of art created by nature," marveled Danai U-sap, president of the district's cultural council, calling the formation "a rare phenomenon that has never been seen here before." Appearing after the water level at the reservoir dropped to approximately 462 feet, part of the profile's appeal may be its fleeting nature, as it is presumably only a matter of time before the depth changes to a degree that the face vanishes forever.
