A Washington man arrested for allegedly breaking into a church daycare provided cops with a rather unusual explanation for his presence in the building: ghost hunting. According to a local media report, the unnamed suspect was busted by police early Tuesday morning after cameras detected an intruder in the building, which belongs to the neighboring Jesus Disciples Family Church in Tacoma. Cops arriving on the scene did not have to look far for the man, as he was discovered trying to flee the scene by scaling over an eight-foot-tall fence surrounding the property.
Upon being questioned by police, the suspect initially asserted that he was there in search of "higher education," presumably through the teachings of the church. When that explanation fell on deaf ears, the man told cops that the situation was all an innocent mistake as he had actually thought the building was abandoned. Likely realizing that police were not buying his second story, the suspect pivoted yet again and claimed that he had been ghost hunting.
Beyond it being his third implausible reason for being in the building, the lack of any paranormal investigation equipment or a cadre of fellow spirit seekers undoubtedly made the man's story sound pretty dubious. Also working against the suspect, who unwisely opted to eschew his right to remain silent, was that he admitted to police that he had smoked "clear," the street name for crystal meth, before embarking on the purported ghost hunt. The man was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree burglary for the misadventure that will likely wind up haunting him for quite some time.
