Have you ever seen "Alternative 3", a rarely viewed British TV program from 1977? Although the show was fiction, it was presented as part of the series "Science Report," and many in the conspiracy field believed that it revealed secret truths.
The program starts with details of a disturbing "brain drain," wherein various physicists, engineers, astronomers, and other scientists either mysteriously disappeared or died. The show contended that impending catastrophic climate change led governments to the acceptance of 'Alternative 3,' a clandestine plan for some of the population to escape to Mars. The idea that a secret space program exists and is capable of interplanetary travel has been endorsed in recent years by such researchers as Olav Phillips and Michael Salla.
The show was originally scheduled to air on April 1st 1977, as part of an April Fool's Day hoax but ended up being delayed to June. Presented as a factual documentary, the alarming presentation could be considered an heir to Orson Welles' "War of the Worlds" radio broadcast.
