Several strange videos from China show a mysterious incident in which a fast-moving aerial object was seemingly shot out of the sky. The jaw-dropping scene reportedly unfolded Friday evening in the city of Weifang when residents noticed a bright UFO soaring overhead. Suddenly, the sizeable illumination was struck by what appeared to be a missile fired from the ground, creating a massive explosion. Footage from multiple witnesses soon flooded Chinese social media, where theories for the odd event soon ran rampant.
While local media reports described the bright object as a UFO, the possibility that it was otherworldly has largely been dismissed by most observers, with a variety of plausible prosaic explanations being offered. Specifically, some have suggested that the incident was some kind of missile defense test. Others posited that it could have been a similar experiment aimed at developing a system for taking out incoming meteors or space junk before they can cause a disastrous impact.
Despite videos of the incident going viral on social media, Chinese officials have been tight-lipped about what unfolded over Weifang on Friday night. As such, both the UFO itself and whatever seemingly shot it down are likely destined to remain a mystery. To that end, what do you make of the curious scene? Was it a missile defense test, a meteor deterrent, or some unfortunate aliens in the wrong place at the wrong time? Weigh in with your thoughts at the C2C Facebook page.
