A young man fishing near Coney Island in New York City could not believe his eyes when he reeled in a bizarre creature that seemingly sported three writhing legs. The creepy catch was reportedly made last week and a brief piece of footage documenting the monstrosity was posted to the popular video-sharing website TikTok, where it amassed a whopping 15 million viewers.
As one can imagine, aghast online observers offered a variety of suggestions for what the oddity might have been, ranging from the prosaic to the fantastic. One popular notion that was jokingly echoed by several viewers was that the fisherman had caught the supernatural monster from the popular Netflix series Stranger Things. Ultimately, once marine biologists saw the video, it was determined that the creature was likely a stingray or an underdeveloped skate.
