Watch: Fishermen Film Legendary Lake Monster in Argentina?

By Tim Binnall

A pair of fishermen in Argentina captured curious footage of what appears to be a sizeable aquatic creature that some observers suspect could be a legendary lake monster known as Nahuelito. According to a local media report, the intriguing sighting occurred last month at Nahuel Huapi Lake. As the two men were fishing at the picturesque site, they were stunned to see something strange emerge from the water.

When one of the witnesses thought he saw a flipper attached to the anomaly, his friend quickly grabbed his cell phone and began filming the oddity. Unfortunately, their footage is not particularly fantastic and doesn't quite capture the weirdness of what the duo were watching. In the video, one of the observers can be heard marveling in Spanish "I don't know what it is but it looks like something very big, it looked like it had scales, I went to see up to three flippers out" before ultimately musing "Something is happening there ... it's scary."

The footage shot by the fishermen quickly went viral in Argentina as the location of their sighting happened to be the purported home of the country's version of the Loch Ness Monster known as Nahuelito. Stories of a monstrous creature said to lurk in the waters of Nahuel Huapi Lake date back to at least 1910 and, as such, many residents believe that this new video provides a glimpse of the legendary beast. Others are not so sure and have argued that the oddity is merely a large wave or simply a normal fish. What's your take on the puzzling scene?
