Watch: Flock of Sheep Swarms German Grocery Store

By Tim Binnall

Business at a German grocery store came to a sudden stop when a flock of around 50 sheep swarmed the building and ran amok in the aisles. The wild incident reportedly occurred on Monday at a Penny supermarket in the community of Burgsinn. Shoppers and staff were understandably astonished when the waves of wayward sheep began filling the store one after another. In an amusing video of the visit, the animals can be seen either making a mess of the supermarket aisles or herding together in the check-out area as one particularly concerned employee frantically jumped up and down in response to the strange scene unfolding before their eyes.

Fortunately, staff were able to usher the animals out of the store after approximately 20 minutes, leaving behind a significant cleanup job for the workers. It was later learned that the creatures had wandered away from a massive flock of about 500 sheep overseen by shepherd Dieter Michler, who was herding them to their winter home. Speculation that he might be hit with a sizeable bill for the animals' misbehavior was quickly squashed by the supermarket chain, which expressed appreciation for the considerable attention the viral video had received and, instead, offered to pay for the wayward sheep's feed for the year.
