A puzzling piece of security footage from a purportedly haunted Indiana public library shows a recent ghostly incident that the staff cannot explain. According to a local media report, the mystifying moment occurred last Thursday evening at Evansville's Willard Library. The 140-year-old building has long been said to be the home of a spirit dubbed the Grey Lady after a maintenance worker allegedly encountered the female apparition in the 1930s. Subsequent sightings of the suspected ghost led to the library developing a rather spooky reputation, which was undoubtedly on the staff's mind when an eerie event unfolded there last week.
Sharing the video (seen below) on their Facebook page, the library explained that the incident happened after the building had closed for the day. While heading back to do some additional work, their alarm company alerted him "that a specific door had triggered the system." However, when he arrived on the scene, he found "it was still securely locked." Understandably perplexed by the situation, the director checked the security footage from the moment in question and was stunned to see the door opening and closing seemingly on its own.
What flummoxed the staff in particular was that "the alarm system will not arm unless all doors are properly latched." Looking further into the incident, they rewound the footage to when the building was closed and, indeed, the library workers had secured the site before heading home. With no explanation for how the door wound up unlocked, much less moved on its own, one is left to wonder if the incident was the handiwork of the Grey Lady letting the staff know that she is still around.
