Watch: Panther Filmed Crossing Field in England?

By Tim Binnall

A motorist in England captured footage of a sizeable black creature crossing a field and he believes that the mystery animal may have been a panther. According to a local media report, the potential big cat sighting occurred this past Sunday as Geoff Thompson was taking pictures of his classic car along the side of a country road in the county of Worcestershire. The photoshoot took a wondrous turn when he spotted something unusual moving through a field off in the distance and quickly realized it was a very large creature.

Fortunately, the awestruck Thompson managed to capture the sighting with his cell phone, though as with many potential big cat videos, the nature of the creature seen in the footage is rather difficult to discern. That said, the motorist was so intrigued by the experience that he actually ventured into the field to see if the animal left behind any tracks and managed to locate a handful of peculiar prints in some mud. Having "a bit of an obsession" with big cats since he was a child, Thompson understandably found the sighting rather thrilling and theorized that the mysterious creature could have been a panther.

Hoping to have his suspicions confirmed, Thompson subsequently turned over his footage to British big cat expert Tim Whittard. In response, the researcher indicated that, alas, the tracks had likely come from a dog. That said, Whittard was less certain about the animal seen in the video, indicating that "it absolutely could have been a big cat." What do you think Thompson spotted out in the field? Was it one of the legendary apocryphal felines said to roam the English countryside or merely a house cat out for a stroll? Weigh in with your thoughts at the Coast to Coast AM Facebook page.
