Watch: Series of Eerie Mystery Flashes Light Up Night Sky in Ohio

By Tim Binnall

An Ohio man and his daughter were left scratching their heads when they spotted an eerie and inexplicable series of flashes that lit up the night sky. The puzzling event reportedly occurred earlier this month in the community of Bethel as Tim and Carolyn Walker were in the process of taking out the trash for pickup the following morning. The otherwise routine chore took a very weird turn when the young girl noticed that the sky had suddenly become illuminated by what seemed to be a sizeable flash of light.

Fortunately, the puzzling scene happened to be captured on video by the family's home security system. In the footage, the duo can be seen pulling a trashcan across the driveway and then stopping to watch the odd flashes, which were largely red and orange in color. When the anomalous lights seemed to cease appearing in the sky, the pair continued on with the chore, wondering what they'd just seen.

“I was scared,” Carolyn told a local TV station about the incident, "I thought it was an explosion when I first saw it, so it made me really nervous." However, Tim noted, there seemed to be no sounds connected to the flashes and mused that "I was in the military. It looks like something you would see in the military." The Walkers were also not the only witnesses to the event as several residents in the area reporting seeing the same thing.

As for what could have caused the curious flashes, both the county emergency management department and local police say that they are as stumped as the Walkers were by the eerie illuminations. Meanwhile, prosaic possibilities such as a transformer exploding, a meteorite, and lightning have all been ruled out as well.
