Watch: Strange Trail Camera Footage Sparks Pombero Speculation in Paraguay

By Tim Binnall

A strange piece of trail cam footage from Paraguay shows what appears to be a peculiar shadow figure, and some believe the eerie anomaly is a folkloric goblin-like being known as a Pombero. According to a local media report, the curious scene (featured in the TV segment below and isolated here) was filmed at the Ybycuí National Park by a device placed there by American filmmaker Nathan Seastrand. “I don't know what it is, but it's one of my most mysterious videos I've ever recorded,” he marveled when sharing the baffling footage online, "there should not be anyone there."

After Seastrand posted the puzzling video, it quickly spread like wildfire on Paraguayan social media, where many theorized that the shadow was something supernatural. Specifically, viewers suggested that the creepy anomaly was a Pombero, a diminutive and mischievous entity that has long been a part of the folklore of the indigenous people of the area. That said, not everyone was convinced that the spooky shadow was anything particularly supernatural, and others posited that the folkloric figure, also known as karai pyhare or 'lord of the night,' would never appear during daylight.
