A mystified motorist in Mexico captured footage of what some believed to be a shiny silver orb hovering over a volcano; however, the 'UFO' was later revealed to be a rather sizeable telescope. The instructive case of misidentification reportedly occurred this past weekend when the driver posted their video online. The footage spread like wildfire on social media in Mexico, with many marveling at the wondrous sight that the witness said was lingering above the Pico de Orizaba volcano before vanishing into the clouds.
Fortunately, fears of an alien invasion were soon squelched when the true nature of the eerie anomaly was revealed. Multiple viewers online identified the silver orb as the Large Millimeter Telescope, located atop the extinct Sierra Negra volcano situated next to the Pico de Orizaba, which was misattributed as the origin of the oddity. The shiny nature of the anomaly had an equally prosaic explanation, as it was simply reflecting the sunlight at the moment when the motorist caught sight of what they thought was something from out of this world.
