Watch: Texas Man Finds Nightmarish Eight-Inch-Long Centipede in His Bed

By Tim Binnall

A man in Texas woke up to quite the surprise when he discovered that a centipede measuring a whopping eight inches long had crawled into his bed while he slept. Jesse Pye reportedly found the nightmarish bedfellow when he got up to work in the morning and spotted "something black that looked like a snake or a giant worm" rustling around under the covers. "I wasn't sure what it was," he recalled, "but I knew it wasn't good." To his credit, Pye kept his wits about him and slowly exited the bed while grabbing his glasses to get a better look at the creepy creature. It was then that he realized that he had been sleeping beside a horrifying eight-inch-long centipede.

Uncertain as to whether or not the creature could be venomous, Pye smartly scooped up his blanket and took it outside, where he gently released the unsettling insect back into the wild. It turns out that he wound up making the right call in avoiding the bug as it turned out to be a giant redheaded centipede, which possesses a fairly powerful venom that can cause reactions ranging from the unpleasant, such as nausea or a headache, to the more serious, such as kidney failure or a heart attack. As for why the centipede decided to snuggle up with Pye that night, he believes that the bug was likely trying to escape the oppressive heat outside, where it had reached 100 degrees for several days in a row.
