In what will likely come as no surprise to fans of curious creatures and fantastic folklore, a recently unveiled cryptid-themed license plate from West Virginia's Department of Motor Vehicles has been dubbed a 'monster hit' as hundreds of drivers have already snatched up the colorful tags. Celebrating the success, the department announced in a press release that it sold "more than 1,000 plates in just one and a half business days" after releasing the design, which celebrates a bevy of the state's most beloved cryptids, to the public on Monday.
"This response has been incredible," marveled WV governor Patrick Morrisey, "Mothman, Bigfoot, the Flatwoods Monster and the rest of our legendary creatures have captured imaginations for generations. Now they're taking over our highways." To that end, the department said it will almost certainly sell out of the first run of 3,000 plates and has "already ordered more to keep up with demand." Remarkably, with the design currently only available at their offices throughout the state, the cryptid-themed tag appears to have accomplished something more unfathomable than Mothman or Bigfoot: getting drivers excited about going to the DMV.
