Witchcraft Hoax Sparks Panic in Indian Village

By Tim Binnall

Panic swept over a village in India after a pair of pranksters hoaxed an unsettling witchcraft ritual that understandably left residents on edge. According to a local media report, the odd incident occurred early Saturday morning when, under the cloak of darkness, the two troublemakers conjured up a fantastic scene on a main road in the community of Bajaj Nagar. Specifically, the pair placed "a pot smeared with a blood-like substance" at the spot with "rangoli powder scattered nearby." Completing the creepy 'production,' the container featured the unnerving words "death is here" scrawled on it.

As one might imagine, when the sun rose on Sunday morning, and residents saw the chilling scene that had appeared overnight, terror took hold of the community. Fortunately, a prompt police response to the situation quickly quelled the panic as security footage revealed that the 'ritual' was the handiwork of "two youths" up to no good. After assuring residents that the witchcraft was more show than spell, they indicated that "action will be taken" against the misguided pair of pranksters.
