Woman Receives Jail Time for Unleashing Swarm of Bees Upon Police During Eviction Dispute

A Massachusetts woman who unleashed a swarm of bees upon police during an eviction dispute has reportedly been sentenced to six months in jail for her bizarre actions. The wild incident, which made headlines back in October of 2022, happened when deputies from the Hampden County Sheriff’s Department attempted to serve an eviction notice at a residence in the community of Longmeadow. The normally routine process took a troubling turn, however, when a friend of the homeowner arrived on the scene with a rather ill-conceived plan to thwart authorities.

Rolling up to the home in an SUV pulling a trailer laden with beehives, a protective suit-clad Rebecca Woods removed the tops of the containers, setting swarms of the stinging insects free to attack the astonished deputies watching the weirdness unfold. As officers attempted to stop her, several more hives spilled to the ground, unleashing hundreds of additional bees that soon filled the air in front of the house and stung multiple members of law enforcement. When told during the fracas that some of the people targeted by the bees were allergic, the woman coldly replied, "good" before ultimately being arrested on multiple charges.

Following a legal fight that dragged on for nearly four years, Woods finally stood trial in Massachusetts earlier this month. While she was acquitted on a staggering seven felonies, the bombastic beekeeper was found guilty of two counts of reckless assault and four misdemeanor counts of assault. Sentenced to six months in jail, Woods will likely only wind up serving just a few days, since she had been in custody for several months before her trial. As for her friend who was on the cusp of losing his home, the beekeeper's gambit sadly proved to be futile as he was ultimately evicted from the residence.
