Hydration Breakthroughs / Space Travel

Cultural anthropologist Gina Bria has been researching ritual foods and food strategies for over 25 years. In the first half, she discussed scientific breakthroughs in the field of hydration and how better hydration can reduce or eliminate ailments like chronic headaches, weight gain, gut pain, and even autoimmune conditions. She debunked the popular advice of drinking 6-8 glasses of water per day, noting that that amount is like "flash flooding" a person's system. A lot of hydration, she revealed, can come from foods like fruits and vegetables which have high water content. Tap and bottled water, processed, sterilized, or pressurized, becomes altered from its natural molecular structure, she cited. To counteract this, she suggested adding a pinch of sea salt or a squeeze of lemon into drinking water to re-energize it.

If a person is going to be drinking alcohol, a tip to reduce insulin levels is to consume a little apple cider vinegar beforehand. Chia seeds, she added, have a natural gel-like quality that prevents dehydration, and can be easily mixed into drinks and foods. She also recommended room temperature water instead of iced, so that the body doesn't have to expend energy warming it up. Bria detailed environmental factors that cause dehydration. One of the surprising ones she named was cell phones, which have frequencies that affect the water molecules in our body. She also praised the benefits of "structured water," a more purified form with molecules organized into hexagonal shapes.

In the latter half, space historian Robert Zimmerman presented the latest news on space travel and exploration in the US and around the world. Interestingly, China has been using its space industry as a training ground for political leadership, he detailed, which has the effect of boosting their space program, when the former space industry managers get appointed into political positions. The privatization of space efforts in the US has been more productive than the government in recent years, he noted, and acted to disrupt the industry, while bringing in much innovation. An example of this is how all the major aerospace companies working with NASA said for years that it's impossible to re-use any parts of the rocket, but Elon Musk's SpaceX took risks and quickly changed this.

SpaceX, he continued, "in the last decade, has literally stolen the entire market share of rocket launches that Russia had," as well as chipped away at US companies. One of Jeff Bezos' ideas is to use space as a location to conduct heavy industry, Zimmerman reported. He also talked about new space efforts by the United Arab Emirates, who sent an astronaut to the ISS, and have developed their own space agency with plans to launch a probe to Mars. India has been trying to catch up with China's space program by sending probes to the Moon and other locations, as well as emphasizing commercial endeavors like launching satellites.
