Video: Fate of Haunted Texas Hospital Uncertain Following City Council Meeting

The fate of a notoriously haunted Texas hospital deemed unsafe this summer remains uncertain following a city council meeting wherein they were to decide if the building should be demolished or preserved. The battle over the historic building began back in August when Fred and Stephen Garza-Guzman of Curious Twins Paranormal purchased the Yorktown Memorial Hospital, which has hosted ghost tours for the last several years. Shortly after taking possession of the purportedly haunted location, the duo was forced to close the site to the public due to what officials described as a "risk of structural failure or hazardous conditions."

Suspecting that city officials saw the change in ownership as a second chance to shut the site down following a failed attempt in 2008, Curious Twins Paranormal understandably expressed considerable dismay over the decision that, they argued, threatened "the only real attraction" in the community. The matter reportedly came to a head on Monday evening at a city council meeting in which a public hearing was held to discuss what would become of the haunted hospital that operated from 1951 to 1986. At the gathering, multiple people mounted a vigorous defense of the site, urging officials to save the building rather than raze it.

Fortunately, for now, the haunted hospital has been spared from becoming a ghost itself as the city council tabled the vote on demolishing the building and indicated that the issue would be revisited at another gathering after the Thanksgiving holiday. While they may not be cleared to resume spooky tours of the site just yet, the new owners expressed optimism over the reprieve. "We are pleased to be able to continue the conversation with the city," Curious Twins Paranormal told a local TV station, "and possibly come up with a plan to resolve any issues they have" with the location.
