Police in an Upstate New York community have launched an investigation into a series of mysterious booms that have puzzled residents for months. According to a local media report, the baffling situation began this past autumn when people in the town of Webster suddenly began hearing and feeling the confounding blasts. What began with one resident sounding the alarm about the booms soon turned into something of a movement as more and more witnesses experienced the mysterious moments in the months that followed.
Paul Morrell, who was roused from his sleep by the phenomenon earlier this month, said that the unsettling sound had him fearing the worst. "I immediately jumped out and ducked my head down and thought ‘what the hell is that,'" he recalled, likening the noise to that of an explosion or a "flash bang." As the phenomenon has continued over the last few months, some of the booms have been captured on video via home security systems, but beyond confirming that the blasts are happening, it would appear that the footage provided no clues toward solving the mystery.
Responding to the increasing number of residents who have reported the inexplicable events over the last few months, Webster officials have attempted to find their point of origin, but they have similarly come up short. As such, the town's police department recently indicated that they have launched their own investigation into the puzzling blasts that have understandably sparked concerns and fueled fears in the community.
