Superstitious Traveler Arrested for Sending 'Ritual Package' to Indian Airport

In a strange story out of India, authorities arrested a man for mailing a 'ritual package' to an airport with the intention of protecting the site from tragedy. According to a local media report, the curious case began in January when officials at Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru received a peculiar parcel containing a toothpaste tube cap, rotting flowers and tomatoes, iron scraps, and a few other inexplicable items. For the next few weeks, the package served as a private puzzle for airport administrators, who debated its meaning before finally reporting it to authorities at the beginning of March.

A subsequent investigation led cops to Subhash Hajij, who admitted to being responsible for the eyebrow-raising parcel, but asserted that he meant no harm with the mysterious mailing. "He claims he had no ill intention and sent the package to ensure that no tragic incidents occur at the airport," a police official explained, indicating that the superstitious traveler told authorities that he had "sent similar packages to other airports." While Hajij could face charges for violating a local law against practicing black magic, authorities stressed that he will likely undergo a "medical examination to determine his mental health condition," since "there is no indication that he intended to create mischief."
