Authorities in Bristol, New Hampshire are searching for the owner of an ornate golden box that was discovered on the side of a road two weeks ago.
The enigmatic, two-foot wide chest sports intricate metallic paneling surrounding its wooden sides.
"It looks ancient, but I don't think it's really that old," officer Nicholas Kelley told WMUR.
Unfortunately, there was no treasure found inside the 'mystery box,' which contained only a sad-looking red bow and lint.
Police speculate that the unique box may have been pilfered during a holiday heist, but no one has come forward yet to claim the odd find.
There's also the possibility that someone was trying dispose of the box because they were given it as a gift and thought it was too tacky for their home.
Should that turn out to be the case, they can expect an uncomfortable holiday season next December when their relatives ask why they saw their gift featured on the evening news.
