A French bulldog mix named Petunia is sitting pretty after being crowned the World's Ugliest Dog for 2025. The curious-looking canine reportedly took home the title this past Friday at the wildly popular annual competition held at the Sonoma County Fair in Santa Rosa, California. Described as a celebration of "the imperfections that make all dogs special and unique," the nearly 50-year-old contest serves to advocate for shelter adoption while showcasing some truly repugnant pooches. Beyond their appearance, the canine contestants are also judged in part on their backstory, which is likely where Petunia won the judges' hearts.

The resilient pooch had been confined to a crate for the first two years of her life as part of a cruel backyard breeding program in Las Vegas. Upon being rescued, Petunia endured multiple surgeries to get back on her feet, culminating with the well-deserved championship victory this past Friday evening. By besting the other 10 unsightly competitors, the hairless bulldog earned her owner a $5,000 prize, and the pair appeared on Monday morning's edition of the Today Show. Additionally, Petunia will also be showcased on a special-edition can of Mug Root Beer, which sponsored the contest that has previously crowned hideous winners Wild Thing, Scooter, Mr. Happy Face, Scamp the Tramp, and Sweepee Rambo, among other unpleasant-looking champions.
