Our newest feature for Coast Insiders, The Art Bell Vault, offers an expanding curated collection with two vintage shows added to the mix each Wednesday. This week's offerings showcase a pair of programs in which callers took center stage by way of their bizarre stories, beginning with an Open Lines episode from 1/2/2005 in which Art asked to hear from listeners who may have once had a physical encounter with extraterrestrials. Among the tales recounted during the evening were a woman who had her body occupied by an alien, a caller who claimed to have been implanted by ETs, and another individual who was certain that he had been abducted.
Next, we journey back to December 22nd, 2006 for an episode wherein Art, inspired by a plotline in the Dean Koontz book Life Expectancy, called upon listeners to tell him about either the best or worst day of their life. Perhaps unsurprisingly, numerous callers opted for the latter option and detailed unfortunate incidents that they would rather soon forget. Many of their 'worst days' featured mishaps involving automobiles, such as one listener who lost control of his car and wound up smashing into someone's living room.
These vintage programs have commercials and breaks removed and are presented in multiple-platforms-- available on-demand for Mac, Windows, IOS, Android, and the Coast app. Many of them feature rare "5th" hours of content from back in the 90s when the show had a longer running time. We do include Art's beloved bumper music, which became such an indelible part of his program.
