Nigel Shadbolt

Biography:

Nigel Shadbolt is Professor of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Deputy Head of the School of Electronics and Computer Science at Southampton University. He is a member of the Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia Group, and Director of Interdisciplinary Research within ECS. He is a Founding Director of the Web Science Research Initiative, a joint endeavor between the University of Southampton and MIT.

Since 1978 he has been carrying out research in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Cognitive Science. In the course of his career he has studied and researched in Philosophy, Linguistics, Psychology, Artificial Intelligence and Electronics and Computer Science. He has published and presented results in all of these disciplines and has sought to develop programs of research across traditional disciplinary boundaries.
