About the show

In the first half, pharmacist Ben Fuchs discussed the crucial role of nutrition and supplementation in maintaining health, and the potential of supplements to offer benefits similar to medications without toxicity or side effects. He emphasized the importance of a nutritional supplement program to counteract the effects of indulgent holiday eating, and also addressed the rising use of GLP-1 agonists --drugs that suppress appetite and promote weight loss-- but warned of side effects such as connective tissue loss. On vitamins, Fuchs explained their role in helping the body utilize macronutrients like proteins, fats, and carbohydrates, calling attention to modern food processing and soil depletion that have stripped many diets of vital nutrition.

He recommended exercise as a balance of stress and recovery essential for building strength and longevity, in addition to mental stimulation to reduce risks like Alzheimer's disease. Fuchs outlined the dangers of elevated blood sugar, or "dysglycemia," which he considers a root cause of heart disease and cancer through a process called glycation-- where sugar "caramelizes" blood and tissues, impairing oxygen and nutrient delivery and causing inflammation.

Addressing a caller with muscle wasting and possible autoimmune issues, Fuchs suggested a connection between chronic degenerative diseases and "dirty blood," often stemming from leaky gut syndrome and sugar toxicity. Fuchs also highlighted vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) as an effective de-stresser, pointing out its role in supporting adrenal glands, which produce cortisol, the stress hormone. Vitamin B5 can simultaneously combat fatigue, stress, and low energy levels, he noted.

In the latter half, Swedish author Carl Abrahamsson shared his extensive journey into magic and the occult, with insights from his personal experiences and relationships with key figures in the field, such as Anton LaVey, Kenneth Anger, and Genesis P-Orridge. Occult learning has an intuitive nature, he noted, with mentorship often involving subtle guidance rather than formal instruction. Delving into his friendship with Anton LaVey, founder of the Church of Satan, he portrayed LaVey's Satanism as symbolic and individualistic rather than dogmatic. Abrahamsson stressed LaVey's contrarian stance as empowering and tolerant, describing him as "unChristian" rather than anti-Christian, respecting others' beliefs as long as they did not impose them.

Abrahamsson also reflected on his friendship with English performance artist/musician Genesis P-Orridge, whose work blended art with occult practice. He called P-Orridge "a magician's magician" with the malleability of reality central to their magical philosophy. Speaking of their collaborative creativity and shared focus on cultural influence, he said, "I did learn a lot from Gen, especially when it comes to how to affect our culture." Abrahamsson also interviewed and befriended the experimental filmmaker Kenneth Anger, who talked about the influence Aleister Crowley's ideas had on him and his friendship with LaVey in San Francisco in the 1960s.

Regarding magic, Abrahamsson said that it goes beyond empirical or causal explanations: "It needs to have some kind of transcendental effect on you… It needs to take you out of your everyday rational mind frame." He distinguished this from stage magic, framing occult magic as a tool for self-transformation and cultural change through ritual and symbolic acts. The conversation also touched on the mainstreaming of occult themes in popular culture, exemplified by the evolution of the Addams Family from a 1960s TV show to the current Netflix hit "Wednesday."
