Fighting for Justice / Past Lives & Spirit Guides

About the show

In the first half, retired NYPD detective Katrina Brownlee joined guest host Ryan Wrecker (email) to share her harrowing story of survival and quest for justice. At age 22, she was shot ten times by her then-fiancé in a brutal attack that nearly ended her life. After being left for dead, she was rescued by a cousin who drove her to the hospital. Brownlee recounted waking from a coma to devastating news from doctors: she had lost her unborn child and was told she would be paralyzed from the waist down. However, she defied this grim prognosis and embarked on a path of survival and healing. Her attacker eventually pleaded guilty and served ten years—a sentence she described as "ridiculous." She expressed frustration with the justice system's leniency toward violent offenders and the broader societal failure to prioritize victims. "It makes you feel that your life doesn't matter," she lamented.

In the aftermath, Brownlee made the choice to join law enforcement in 2001, aiming to be "a good cop" and improve the experiences of victims like herself. Her career advanced from officer to detective to deep-undercover narcotics work, and eventually she joined the security detail for New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Brownlee detailed her undercover work in drug and vice operations, pointing out how there are human stories behind addiction and crime: "You have those people that have been through some sort of trauma... they think that getting on drugs is going to help their situation, but it's just temporary."

Alongside her law enforcement career, Brownlee founded the organization Young Ladies of Our Future, which mentors young women from impoverished neighborhoods to prevent them from experiencing domestic violence and related hardships. She urged empathy and support from the community: "If you know anyone that is in this situation, help them. Have empathy, have compassion."

In the second half, psychic intuitive Karen Kubicko explained how past-life regression provides a unique opportunity to interact with spirit guides. She described the soul as a spiritual being that chooses various lifetimes to learn specific lessons, often returning to Earth alongside familiar souls from past incarnations. When asked about the earliest and most recent past lives she recalls, she recounted a life in the time of Atlantis where she was deeply connected to nature, and a more recent life in 1950s Ohio where she died of polio as a young child. According to Kubicko, these memories revealed emotional connections that explained her current life preferences and relationships.

She described the afterlife as a "greeting room" where souls are welcomed by spirit guides, angels, and loved ones after death. Kubicko sees this place as a nurturing environment for healing and reflection, rather than a place of judgment. "The only person that's really judging you is you," she said. She also claimed that spirit guides assist souls in deciding whether to reincarnate for further growth.

Throughout the interview, Kubicko emphasized that past life regression is a tool for healing and self-understanding rather than mere curiosity. She described the rebirth process as a personal choice, guided by the individual's intent and free will rather than by a mechanical cycle. "You're choosing your own lifetime... sometimes people pick the hard lifetimes because they really want to learn on some deep level how to overcome something," she said.
