Peter Davenport of the National UFO Reporting Center discussed multiple sightings of an unidentified object over the Bangor Submarine Base on Hood Canal, Washington, and provided audio from witnesses. A 16-year-old and his mother initially reported seeing a "blue light that seemed to hover in the clouds," then "started to grow a tail" and "shot down across the sky" towards the base. Another witness near the base described a "circular disc-shaped object approximately 3/4 mile from my house," about "50 to 60 feet long," with its bottom glowing with a white light, except for a "flat" black circular center. This witness provided a computer-generated image of what he saw.
A civilian Public Affairs Officer at the base initially confirmed that "two individuals from inside... had reported an incident." However, when a TV station later inquired, he apparently denied ever making that representation. A videotape of the object was reportedly in civilian possession, but the TV station faced "some difficulty in the negotiations" to acquire it. In conclusion, Davenport dismissed common explanations, stating the object's maneuvers are "not consistent with a meteorite, with weather balloons, with swamp gas, or crash dummies." The first hour and the last 2 hours consisted of news and Open Lines.
