Dr. Keith Scott-Mumby joined Rollye James for a discussion on food, allergies and diets. People can become addicted to foods that they are actually allergic to, such as wheat and dairy, he explained. Interestingly, he said that alcoholics are actually addicted to the food aspect of the beverage rather than the alcohol.

Sugar and sugar substitutes can be particularly unhealthy for people, and high-fructose corn syrup (often used in soda) is a "disaster," said Scott-Mumby, who said this substance can't be metabolized properly and can lead to obesity. Popular diets are often misguided, as people have very individualized needs, and this tends to be overlooked in the one-size-fits-all approach, he noted.

He spoke about his work in environmental medicine-- some people, "human canaries," are much more sensitive to chemicals, which can make them ill. He suggested taking a "nose survey" in which a person goes through their home and removes unneeded items that exude a smell. The Doctor also touched on his involvement with energy medicine, using such approaches as vocal re-patterning and the SCENAR device to treat patients.
