Bigfoot Update / Mothman Narrative

About the show

Guest host Connie Willis (info) welcomed Bigfoot hunter Ron Morehead to share his experiences with Bigfoot at the Sierra camp, including recording sounds and sighting a creature. Morehead reflected on his long involvement in Bigfoot research and explained how he became connected to the well-known Sierra sounds. He described himself as a practical, business-minded person who owned restaurants and hotels before becoming widely known for his wilderness investigations. He emphasized that those who knew him understood he took the subject seriously and approached it with sincerity rather than sensationalism.

Morehead recounted how he first entered the remote Sierra Nevada camp after being invited by the Johnson brothers, hunters who reported unusual encounters beginning in the early 1970s. He described the location as isolated, high-elevation wilderness. He explained that early experiences included hearing strange vocalizations, finding very large footprints, and observing behaviors that led him to believe something unusual was present. Over time, he and others learned to quietly observe rather than react, which he said allowed more consistent interactions and recordings of the vocalizations.

He also discussed his interpretations of what they encountered, suggesting that these beings were large, bipedal, and capable of complex communication. He recalled at least one visual sighting tied to a vocal event, describing a fast-moving figure moving smoothly through rough terrain. Morehead went beyond traditional Bigfoot theories, exploring ideas about energy, perception, and frequencies, arguing that humans may perceive only a limited range of reality. Morehead also played audio clips of the purported Bigfoot vocalizations commonly known as the Sierra sounds.

In the latter half of the program, Bill Kousoulas of Phenomenology Research Professionals discussed the Mothman phenomenon and the 1967 Silver Bridge disaster. He explained that he and his wife, Jaci, became deeply interested in the paranormal after watching The Mothman Prophecies movie in 2003, which led them to John Keel's book and other high-strangeness authors. Their research began after a 2016 trip to Point Pleasant, West Virginia, where they formed ties in the community and were especially inspired by Carolyn Harris, who lost her son and first husband in the 1967 Silver Bridge disaster.

Kousoulas laid out the Mothman timeline: early sightings of a winged creature near a cemetery outside Charleston, followed by the famous 1966 encounter in the TNT area involving two young couples who reported being chased at high speed and then going straight to the police. He emphasized that the following 13 months were not just a monster story, but a broader wave of phenomena, including UFO reports, strange phone calls, poltergeist-like events, visions, and more. He connected the period's climax to the Silver Bridge collapse, which killed 46 people, and he noted that while the intense focus on the paranormal faded afterward, he suggested the activity did not stop.

Kousoulas argued that Mothman is unlikely to be demonic or malicious. At worst, it is neutral; at best, it can be protective or angelic. He rejected the idea that Mothman caused the bridge collapse, pointing instead to practical explanations such as aging design limits, heavy modern loads, and structural failure, and framed Mothman more as a possible warning presence that people misunderstood through fear. He also shared broader views influenced by Keel, including window areas where the veil between dimensions may be thinner, and described modern sightings, including the Chicago Mothman.
