EVP Recordings & Ghosts

About the show

Barbara McBeath of the Ghost Investigators Society (GIS) presented examples of their Electronic Voice Phenomena (EVP) investigations and offered her analysis. She defined EVP as "a voice that you do not hear at the time being recorded" and emphasized that GIS always uses new tapes or digital recorders. Investigators invite spirits to speak, then review hours of recordings in search of voices. McBeath noted that digital recordings are "very clear. It's a lot clearer than the tapes."

McBeath believes the voices come from ghosts, which she described as "the energy consciousness of someone who's lived and has had a body and has died and are still here on this plane with us." She distinguished ghosts from other entities that might cause harm, such as those invited through Ouija boards, describing them as a "different life form." Many of the recorded voices belonged to children, which McBeath found disturbing.

The recordings included a voice saying, "I'll cut you" or "I'll catch you," and another in a basement saying, "To cause her pain" in response to a question about scratching. In a cemetery, a child's voice sadly asks, "Help me find my dad, boy." Recordings from an old mental hospital included the statements "He broke my neck," "I will kill you bastards," and a child saying, "It's cold." Another disturbing clip featured the sound of water and a child saying, "I can't breathe." In the final segment, listeners reacted to the recordings and shared their own experiences. The first hour featured news and Open Lines about life after death.
