Speaking to the Dead

About the show

Clairvoyant and spiritual medium James Van Praagh described his life and how he came to recognize his psychic abilities. Initially a skeptic, he was told at age 22 that he would soon be able to "talk to the dead." Van Praagh said that many times during his readings, a client will hear things about their family that are later confirmed by siblings or others. To enter the state where he receives information from the afterlife, he said it requires a type of meditation in which he can tune into a "very high frequency" that is not accessible to most people.

The guest also claimed that when people lose their fear of death, "they can really start to live" a fuller life. Also, the fear of judgment after death is really our own struggle to forgive ourselves for what we may have done to others. Later, Van Praagh detailed research using electronic devices to communicate with the spirit realm, which he believed would be further developed within a few years.

On a visit to Sedona, Arizona, Van Praagh said he witnessed what he thought were alien beings, who "didn't understand why humans had an element all around them called love, and why they didn't use it." In the last hour of his appearance, he took listener calls and gave readings of their current concerns and predicaments. The last hour consisted of Open Lines, while the first hour featured a recap of the gripping call from a man claiming to be an employee of Area 51, who panicked and hung up, and Art then experienced an inexplicable loss of his satellite feed.
