Weird 911 Calls

About the show

Author and former Saturday Night Live writer Leland Gregory discussed the funniest and most bizarre calls to 911. He described the operators he spoke to while working on his book, What's the Number for 911?, as "intelligent, sympathetic" with a "great sense of dark humor." Gregory revealed how operators actually began sharing recordings of their strangest calls with him, and most of the program featured this collection of audio. In one call, a man asked for "two measly dollars" until he received his next disbursement. An elderly woman also asked 911 to "send a man over" to open two bottles of beer, and the operator obliged.

One little girl called for help with her math homework, and another man complained that his wife kept spraying him with mace and asked what to do. The 911 operator said "throw it away," and the man thanked her and hung up. In another recording, someone was apparently gagged and trying to speak, which had Art turning off his microphone because he was laughing so hard. There were also many calls with people who were obviously drunk or on drugs. One recording later in the program featured an excited man who claimed "I can do anything!" and "I'm a ufologist!" During the latter part of the show, Gregory answered listener questions and shared even more crazy calls.
