Near-Death Encounters / Lemuria & Mount Shasta

About the show

In the first half, afterlife researcher Peg Fields shared her personal near-death experience (NDE) and its profound impact on her life and work. She recounted how her journey into NDE research began with her own extraordinary experiences, including multiple out-of-body and astral projections since childhood. An incident during a hypnosis class triggered a severe physical trauma, leading to a prolonged period of unconsciousness and mysterious symptoms that baffled doctors for years. Eventually, this culminated in her near-death encounter, where "everything turned black... I saw this fire come up in front of me, like all of my internal organs being sucked out and scrambled, and just like put back in my body."

Despite the physical pain and confusion, she found herself enveloped in complete darkness, free from pain. She vividly recalled, "Up to the right corner, I saw this tiny spark... as that spark became closer, it opened up more and more... it looked like liquid light." She emphasized the emotional and spiritual clarity of the moment, along with feelings of relief, safety, peace, and comfort. Fields noted that many people have had similar experiences but fear discussing them, which motivated her to write books to help others understand these phenomena.

An NDE is like "walking into another room," Fields said, adding that "we never, ever die" but transition to another state of existence. A common thread in an NDE is an overwhelming sense of love and peace, with some people encountering familiar surroundings or beings. She recalled her own experience of interacting with a cloud-like emanation and feeling devastated when told she had to return to life. "You want to stay on the other side," she said, but often people are sent back to fulfill unfinished purposes. Further, she mentioned encounters with various entities, including angels and "space creatures," and affirmed the presence of God during her experience, saying, "I knew that was what we would call heaven. I knew I was home."

In the latter half, author and historian Justin McHenry delved into the strange and colorful lore surrounding the lost continent of Lemuria and its possible connection to Mt. Shasta. The idea of Lemuria began as a 19th-century scientific hypothesis—a land bridge proposed to explain lemur migration to Madagascar. From there, the theory moved into esoteric lore, with figures like Madame Blavatsky placing Lemuria on a timeline before Atlantis, and James Churchward, describing "Mu" as a sunken continent that once held an advanced civilization, which some have said included telepathy and interstellar spacecraft. Churchward posited that there were gas pockets beneath the continent and that once they were released, they sank the landmass.

McHenry also connected Lemurian survivors to Atlantis and even Northern California's Mount Shasta, where "Atlantean guards" allegedly watched over imprisoned Lemurians. He described Shasta as "a beautiful, absolutely stunning mountain that just kind of shoots up out of the surrounding wilderness," often surrounded by lenticular clouds that lend it an otherworldly appearance. He traced the origins of Mount Shasta's mystical reputation to late 19th-century writings by Frederick Spencer Oliver, whose channeled work introduced the idea of a reincarnated Atlantean coming to Shasta. This narrative was further popularized in the 1930s by Wishar Cerve of the Rosicrucian Order, who claimed that Lemurians lived in Mount Shasta and shared tales of "people seeing weird lights," "force fields that stall cars," and an astronomer who claimed to observe a hidden civilization atop the mountain.

The mountain remains a hotspot for paranormal phenomena, including UFO sightings, Bigfoot encounters, and reports of "little people" and reptilian beings. McHenry noted, "It's just teeming with this vibe that attracts the paranormal and...people who believe in the paranormal." He related a fascinating account of a hunter lost in the woods who was guided by a seven-foot-tall Lemurian into Shasta's subterranean caves, where, upon a golden pillow, he received a massive knowledge transfer about love and unity.
