Distant Healing & Consciousness

About the show

A physician of internal medicine, Dr. Larry Dossey, is a prolific author, including of the book "Reinventing Medicine," which proposes that the mind transcends limitations, where mental processes operate outside the constraints of time and space. He suggested that consciousness can engage in distant healing and acquire information from external sources. Dossey believes there are areas of the brain that "mediate what we call spiritual and transcendental experiences" and disagrees with those who say that these are due to chemicals in the brain.

He acknowledged the skepticism and rigid dogmas present in contemporary science, while referencing research that shows prayer and intention can significantly influence health outcomes. This finding was illustrated by studies at Duke Medical Center, where patients receiving prayer experienced fewer complications than those who didn't, indicating that collective consciousness may have healing properties. Dossey emphasized that it didn't seem to matter from which religion it was offered - all seemed to work equally well.

Dossey also discussed the belief that consciousness possesses an inherent quality not limited to the brain, pointing to the possibility of a self that continues beyond death. He cited official studies, including anecdotal instances of communication from deceased loved ones experienced by grieving spouses. Further, he presented evidence that intentions can influence past events. The guest argued for a reevaluation of how these phenomena are incorporated into medical frameworks, acknowledging and investigating the intersection of consciousness, health, and time. The last hour featured Open Lines.
